There are lots of opportunities to enjoy long range mountain views in Western NC.  One of my favorite places to take visiting guests is the scenic lookout from HWY 28  between Bryson City and Robbinsville.   Here you can also get a long range glimpse of the beautiful Fontana Lake.  It is very easy to get to and is worth the short trip just off of US HWY 74  between Bryson City NC and the Nantahala Gorge.
